Portsmouth, Va. – This week, PETA introduced Portsmouth Fireplace Rescue and Emergency Providers with a Compassionate Fireplace Division Award for saving an aged man and his canine from a burning storage within the Park Manor neighborhood on the morning of December 5. In response to studies, the person was hanging out of a window of the indifferent storage and unable to make use of the steps to flee—so rescuers used a ladder to succeed in him and his canine and get the pair to security.

Firefighters rapidly extinguished the flames and report that everybody concerned is now doing tremendous. To thank the rescuers, PETA awarded them with a framed certificates—together with some scrumptious, dog-shaped vegan candies.

“Due to Portsmouth firefighters’ kindness and fast considering, this canine and his guardian survived a harrowing hearth and are each secure,” says PETA Senior Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA salutes these rescuers for searching for everybody, no matter species, and hopes this story conjures up others to return to assistance from these in want.”

PETA encourages all animal guardians to observe PETA’s fire-safety video, to make a plan for evacuating with animal companions in case of an emergency, and to place an indication on their doorways or home windows so as to alert rescue staff to the presence of canine, cats, and different animals. Households can order stickers from the PETA Store or make their very own.

PETA—whose motto reads, partially, that “animals usually are not ours to abuse in any method”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For extra data, please go to PETA.org, take heed to The PETA Podcast, or observe the group on X (previously Twitter), Fb, or Instagram.
